Songs of Love and Magic     

          

Two concerts to choose from, each a little different:

Saturday, November 6th: :Special features are: Nov 6th, Alison Trainer (she makes her BLO debut this year) in romantic songs by Grieg and in selections from Argento's Six Elizabethan Songs. Baritone Aaron Engebreth performs the beloved "Standchen" by Schubert, and some of Vaughan Williams' romantic Songs of Travel based on texts of Robert Louis Stevenson. Hear tenor Thomas Gregg on songs by Celius Dougherty including his wonderful "Love in the Dictionary," and mezzo Susan Cooke on "Scherza Infida" from Handel's opera, Ariodante. These singers will also perform other Handel arias and songs by Schumann, Donaudy, and Tosti. This concert takes place at 8 PM in the Main Recital Room in the new addition to Longy School of Music, two doors down from the original building. This concert's narrator will be Lisa Mullins of WGBH's The World.

Friday, November 12th: Soprano Annette Betanski and her husband, French horn player with the Boston Symphony James Sommerville perform duets by Berlioz, Massenet, and Four Irish Folk Songs by Havelock Nelson. Mr. Sommerville will also play the Bujanowski virtuoso horn solo, Spain. In addition mezzo Susan Cooke, baritone Aaron Engebreth,, and tenor Thomas Gregg will perform the same repertoire as listed above in the earlier November 6th concert. This concert will be performed at the elegant College Club in Boston's Back Bay at 8 PM, and will be narrated by Helen Barrington.
